EAGLES VS. COWBOYS- It's playoff time!

I came to Dallas almost 5 years ago, and with every year my hate for the Cowboys grows more and more. It's actually a funny thing. I try and try to grow a liking for them since I am living only 15 minutes from the stadium and I do love the NFL, but the fans/radio/espn-dallas make it impossible. This is probably the worst city for fans I've ever exper. The crap I heard from day one of training camp to this morning on the way to work has wavered so much that it makes me dizzy. I listened to Emmit Smith predict a 7-9 season, I listened to talk shows and fan callers talk about how they need a new coach, a new offensive coordinator, a new quarterback, new running backs, a decent receiving corps. I've heard just about everything you can imagine in the negative about how they can't win in December, they can't win a playoff game. Personally I'm a Broncos fan and I can't say I've never been disappointed in a loss or a bad coaching decision but to depleat my own team weak in an weak out everytime they have a loss is non-sense.
Now, the Cowboys have come out of the regular season as the division champs and with home field advantage for game 1 of the playoffs and these same people who cursed them are now 100% confident that they will play in the super bowl. That makes me sick. Have they really gotten over their wows just like that. They win their last 3 games and all of the sudden there is not a team in the NFL that can beat them? Let's please not forget that the Cowboys only had 4 really quality wins this season. I mean not to say that every win you get in the NFL isn't important because it is, but come on. They lost to the sorry Giants both times. 6 or 7 of their wins came agains sub .500 teams, and oh yeah they haven't won a playoff game since 1996. Dont' get me wrong I think they have great momentum and I think they could possibly beat this somewhat defeated Eagles team, but to just ignore the fact that they are going to have to beat 3 really good teams in a row to make it to the Super Bowl is absurd. I've heard people who I thought were intelligent just dismiss the first 3 games like they are nothing. Fact is they are going to have to beat 2 of these 3 teams if they make it past the Eagles: Minnesota, Green Bay, New Orleans. Yes they have beat the Saints, but to think the Saints won't have revenge in mind and blow the Cowboys out is crazy. The Packers pretty much dominated the Cowboys this season and the Packers got beat twice by Favre and the Vikings. Like I said I have no problem with the confidence of winning Saturday agains the Eagles but I would find it hard to believe that the Cowboys even stand a chance of winning 2 let alone 3 playoff games this year. I don't know maybe I'm wrong, let me know what you think.

  1. I agree with you Matty. I was a Cowboys fan (or so I thought) when I lived in California, however I was never a huge NFL fan. But since moving here over 3 years ago, I have slowly had enough. First off, they took that whole Americas Team thing WAY overboard. You cant be "Americas Team" when your last playoff win was 1996. Listening to sports radio a lot at work and in the car, listening to the fans call in and butcher Jason Garrett, Romo, Barber, Wade, Roy (Well-Deserved) then when they start winning, they are the best in the league. Thats the thing I found out. Most of the Cowboys fans here have no idea what they are talking about! Hearing these idiots on the radio ramble on about nothing has made me realize, 80% of Dallas fans are people who love the team but know nothing about the team or the sport. Its pathetic. Most these fans arent passionate. Look at Cleveland Browns. HORRIBLE organization, but every home game is sold out and these fans support their team thru thick and thin. Good luck finding that in a majority of Dallas "fans"

  2. You hit the spot! Take a city like San Francisco, I'm pretty sure to this day they are convinced that the Giants are the best in the MLB and they have a chance to win the World Series every year. They don't have much to cheer for other than Lincecum but they still cheer. Can you imagine if the Cowboys were sub .5oo. If they were I can't imagine Jerry World selling out for the second half of the season. The second someone drops a pass or misses an extra point the fans run them out of Dallas. Take Folk as an example: Great kicker, one of the best in the league. He has a short slump and after a few misses he had no chance of recovery. Not because of his abilities, but because kicking is 80% mental and Dallas fans tore him apart and ruined all confidence he had. You can't tell me that Roy Williams doesn't have the skill to catch TD's and be a league leader, yet once he screwed up a few times he was not only competing against good defenses but also his own "fans". I just don't know how they expect their teams to succeed when they can't forgive them for a bad loss early in the season or a bad play in the first quarter of a game. I would have a hard time saying the Cowboys can't win the superbowl if they had fans that supported them even when they lose. They are a great team with great talent, but confidence and swagger is what gets them to the next level and fans ruin that. I'm actually impressed they have overcome so much to this point in the season. That alone shows how much talent they have despite the terrible fans.

  3. Matt,
I share your hate for the Cowboys, but the ironic thing that when they were young under Tom Landry, with unpredictable quarterbacks like Don Meredith and Craig Morton, blazing wide recievers like “Bullet” Bob Hayes and unknown running backs like Dan Reeves, they were exciting to watch. They were the new team in the NFL and were always overlooked by the East Coast media elite. On the great day when they finally beat Green Bay on the tundra of Lambeau Field it was great fun to be a Cowboy fan. Based on those years I stayed a Cowboy fan for a while even though some of the excitement was gone. But the crowning blow was the advent of Jerry Jones. Arrogant beyond desription, literally kicked Tom Landry in the gut without honoring his years of dedication and success in order to build his Kingdom Jerry has ruined the Dallas Cowboys for me.

So my take on them for years has been that the Dallas Cowboys are one trade away from being a good team. If they could just trade for a new owner.

  4. Min 34 Dallas 3.
Well That's it for the Cowboys this year.

What a relief. I don't think I could have stood seeing Jerry glotting at a Super Bowl.
